Functions: Assists in the admission process by completing demographic registration information and admission history, including allergies, special needs, valuables, etc. Collects data which includes the patient’s vital signs and portions of the admission record. Performs personal cares and comforts. Performs procedures according to physician order and nursing delegation, based on validation and skill level, i.e., performance of blood specimen collection, non-blood specimen collection, etc. Schedules tests, therapies and procedures according to standard operating procedure. Performs equipment set-up, maintenance, operation and cleaning per established guidelines, i.e., warmers, fetal monitors, pumps, sterile equipment and supplies, etc. Transports and/or transfers patients within or outside of the facility per delegation, physician or patient preference. Assists with the discharge process in newborn nursery checking charts and making sure everything is done for discharge. Identifies high risk situations and takes appropriate action according to standard operating procedure. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
