Responsibilities include assisting with recovery planning, community integration, and maintaining documentation according to DBHDS and DMAS standards.

Position Summary

  • The Registered Peer Support Specialist (RPSS) is an individual with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery who provides strength-based, person-centered support to individuals receiving services. The RPSS utilizes their personal recovery journey to inspire hope, promote self-determination, and assist individuals in achieving and maintaining recovery while navigating behavioral health systems. Core Responsibilities Provide peer recovery support services based on shared lived experience
  • Establish trusting, supportive relationships that promote recovery
  • Assist individuals in identifying strengths, goals, and recovery pathways
  • Support engagement in treatment and community resources
  • Collaborate on recovery planning and goal development
  • Assist with community integration (housing, employment, social supports)
  • Complete documentation in compliance with DBHDS and DMAS standards
  • Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration

Qualifications

  • Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS/RPSS) in Virginia
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Lived experience in recovery
  • Completion of DBHDS-approved training program
  • Ability to pass background checks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in behavioral health or substance use services
  • Knowledge of DBHDS and Medicaid requirements
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with electronic health records Work Environment Community-based, office, and client home settings. May require travel and flexible scheduling. Supervision Reports to Program or Clinical Supervisor. Receives ongoing supervision per DBHDS standards.

Requirements

Candidates must be a Registered Peer Recovery Specialist in Virginia with a High School Diploma or GED and lived experience in recovery. Completion of a DBHDS-approved training program and the ability to pass background checks are required.
