The Laboratory Assistant performs specimen collection via venipuncture, capillary, and arterial puncture while conducting basic laboratory procedures and point of care testing. They also manage clerical duties, specimen processing, and provide customer service support to patients and clinical staff.
The position requires one year of phlebotomy experience and proficiency in computer skills and medical terminology. Candidates must be capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting 50 lbs and working in an environment with exposure to blood and body fluids.
Under moderate direction of the laboratory manager, collects laboratory specimens by venipuncture, capillary puncture, and arterial puncture for subsequent testing and collects throat culture specimens. Performs additional basic laboratory procedures under close direction of techs as proficiency is demonstrated and documented. Exhibit the values of F.I.R.S.T. Frequently has direct patient contact. Frequent contact with physicians, visitors, family members, associates, and in the outpatient area with radiology and EKG personnel.
Works with specimen collection devices including needles, syringes, and vacutainers. Uses centrifuge and basic laboratory tools. Good patient interaction skills.
One year of phlebotomy experience preferred. Computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology.
