The Echo and Vascular Technologist performs routine and complex echocardiography and vascular duplex ultrasound examinations. They are responsible for preliminary interpretation of studies, equipment maintenance, and accurate documentation of patient results in the EMR.
Candidates must hold an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology or Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Professional certification such as ARRT (RDCS/RVT) is required, along with 5+ years of relevant experience.
Job Overview The Echo/Vascular Technologist performs both echocardiography and vascular duplex ultrasound examinations under the guidance of a cardiologist and medical director. This role requires technical proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment, interpreting preliminary results, and providing high-quality patient care in a cardiology setting
Perform routine and complex echocardiography (trans-thoracic, stress, contrast echocardiograms) and vascular duplex ultrasound (peripheral venous/arterial, extracranial cerebrovascular, visceral/renal vascular) Conduct preliminary interpretation of studies, noting abnormal pathology and notifying physicians of life-threatening or relevant findings Operate and maintain echocardiography and vascular ultrasound equipment, including calibration, cleaning, and troubleshooting Prepare patients for procedures, explain the process, and position them appropriately Document patient information, test results, and final reports in the EMR; handle clerical duties such as study preparation, logging, archiving, and charge entry Collaborate with cardiologists and other medical staff, reviewing procedures as needed Travel to alternate locations as required to meet patient care needs Demonstrate empathy, accountability, and professionalism in patient interactions Maintain equipment and work areas for operational and safety compliance
Required Skills & Competencies Proficiency in echocardiography required, vascular ultrasound preferred Ability to interpret preliminary study results Strong patient care and communication skills Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation Ability to work under general supervision and follow established protocols Positive attitude toward change and new procedures 1+ years of experience as an Echo Tech is preferred
Education & Certification Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, or related field RDCS or RCS certification required, RVT or equivalent certification preferred BLS/ACLS certification recommended
