The Residential Support Specialist provides therapeutic support and crisis stabilization to adults in a residential setting using the Peer Support Model. Responsibilities include conducting assessments, developing integrated care plans, and facilitating recovery-oriented activities to prevent future crises.
Candidates must have a High School Diploma or GED and 1-3 years of experience in behavioral healthcare, or a Bachelor's degree in a related field. A valid driver's license and the ability to work flexible hours, including overnights, are required.

Residential Specialist work with residents who are struggling with mental health challenges to achieve their recovery goals. Our team of outstanding professionals is dedicated to providing high quality services to individuals in Syracuse, Oneida, Oswego, and Auburn.
Conducts initial assessments/screenings Teach guests to look at crisis differently and utilize wellness tools to prevent future crises or to decrease the intensity of personal crisis. Work closely with Health Homes programs, hospitals, and other treatment providers to develop an integrated plan of care including mental health, physical health, substance use, and community support services necessary for individuals to succeed in the community. Provide advocacy, support, and referral linkage services for program residents as needed and as assigned by the Program Coordinator. Provide recovery oriented services incorporating Peer Support, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed/Responsive care. Provide coverage for the program as reflected in the staffing plan including overnights as required. Rotate warm line responsibilities with other staff and/or make follow up calls. Functions as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Acts as a role model for residents of the program. Ensure upkeep and cleanliness of the residence.
High School Diploma or GED 1-3 years’ volunteer or work experience in the Behavioral Healthcare field OR Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. A respect for and high level of comfort around people experiencing psychiatric crisis. Ability to utilize critical thinking, problem-solving and de-escalation skills to assist with creating and maintaining an environment that promotes recovery. Must possess a valid New York State driver’s license and have reliable transportation. Is sensitive to cultural differences and able to incorporate that understanding into service provision. Demonstrates the values of diversity, equity and belonging; foster an inclusive environment that facilitates diversity.
