The Physician Assistant provides comprehensive perioperative care, including preoperative assessments and postoperative management. They also perform first assist duties during surgery and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient flow and clinical pathways.
Job Responsibilities
Perform preoperative assessments and support patient optimization.
Participate in postoperative management, follow-up, and care coordination.
Assist with consultative support and continuity of care planning.
Provide patient and family education related to procedures and recovery.
Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, treatments, and medications within scope.
Support operating room throughput and patient flow optimization.
Assist with urgent and emergent add-on coordination.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, PAT, sterile processing, and scheduling teams to remove barriers to efficient case progression.
Assist in day-of-surgery issue escalation and operational problem solving.
Perform first assist duties consistent with privileges and regulatory requirements.
Provide intraoperative assistance, tissue handling, retraction, suturing, wound closure, and related support.
Assist with development and standardization of clinical pathways and perioperative protocol
Complete timely, accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
Experience Requirements
Surgical services or perioperative experience preferred.
First assist experience preferred.
Experience supporting operative services operations, throughput, or quality initiatives preferred.
Candidates must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and hold a PA-C credential. Required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and a Controlled Substances Registration license for Indiana.
