The technician is responsible for processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining tissue specimens to prepare high-quality slides for dermatopathology review. They must also maintain laboratory equipment, ensure accurate specimen labeling, and adhere to safety and quality assurance protocols.
Candidates must have at least 2 years of histology experience with strong microtomy skills and the ability to handle high-volume sectioning. An associate degree in Laboratory Science or Histology is required, and HT(ASCP) certification is preferred.
Overview We’re hiring a Histology Technician to join SkinPath Solutions, an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology. Essential job duties include but are not limited to: Process, embed, section, stain, and coverslip tissue specimens for routine histology and special stains. Perform microtomy and prepare high-quality slides for dermatopathology review. Accurately label tissue cassettes, paraffin blocks, and histology slides using patient accession numbers. Maintain accurate filing and organization of paraffin blocks and pathology slides. Perform and document quality control procedures on histology laboratory equipment and notify leadership of equipment issues or malfunctions. Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant histology laboratory work environment. Follow laboratory safety standards, quality assurance protocols, and established histotechnician procedures. Assist with additional laboratory and histology-related duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of histology laboratory experience with strong microtomy skills required. Candidates must be comfortable performing high-volume tissue sectioning and able to cut a minimum of 125 blocks per 8-hour shift while preparing three-level slides with accuracy and consistency. Licensure/Certifications/Education Education: HT(ASCP) certification preferred or eligibility required. Associate degree in Laboratory Science, Histology, or a related field required.
