The Unit Technician provides essential support in the ICU by performing nursing assistant, unit clerk, or monitor technician duties. Responsibilities include assisting patients with daily living, managing clerical tasks at the nurse's station, and monitoring cardiac rhythms.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and BLS certification. One year of healthcare experience and previous experience as a unit clerk, nursing assistant, or monitor tech are preferred.
Under the supervision of the Director or delegate, the Unit Tech will be proficient in two of the following: Nursing Assistant, Unit Clerk or Monitor Tech.
Assists patients with activities of daily living, provides basic care to patients and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment.
Clerk: Assists in planning, organizing and implementing activities that occur in the nurse’s station. Responsible for clerical and receptionist duties. Responsible for documentation, communication and coordination of nursing unit activities. Maintains the physical environment of the area.
Responsible for ongoing surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythm. Provides nurses with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. Recognizes and intervenes in life threatening arrythmias. Responsible for documentation, communication and coordination of activities related to monitoring telemetry tracings.
Education and Experience: · High school diploma or equivalent
· BLS is required
· One year of health care experience is preferred
· Previous unit clerk, nursing assistant and monitor tech experience preferred
