The CST facilitates safe and effective invasive surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and nurses. They are responsible for maintaining the sterile field and ensuring the operating room environment and equipment are safe for patient care.
Candidates must be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from NBSTSA or NCCT and have completed a CAAHEP-accredited educational program. BLS certification is required within 14 days of hire.
The Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) works under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures. The CST ensures quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. This role ensures the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety.
Job Requirements Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or NCCT certification if practicing prior to 2009. Completion of a CAAHEP-accredited or other nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists. BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care. Preferred Job Requirements Previous experience as a surgical technologist.
