Veterinary assistant – countryside veterinary hospital

$17–$20/hour (Based on Experience)

Countryside Veterinary Hospital is looking to add a compassionate and motivated Veterinary Assistant to our growing team in Shelton, CT. We are a busy, established small animal practice committed to providing high-quality medicine and exceptional patient care in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

• Position responsibilities
• Assist veterinarians and technicians with examinations, treatments, and outpatient appointments
• Restrain patients safely and compassionately during exams and procedures
• Collect patient histories and communicate effectively with pet owners
• Prepare exam rooms and maintain treatment area cleanliness and organization
• Support patient care by assisting with medication administration and treatments as directed
• Assist with venipuncture, sample collection, and diagnostic procedures when appropriate
• Prepare patients for surgery and assist with surgical prep and recovery
• Monitor hospitalized patients and ensure comfort and cleanliness
• Educate clients on basic at-home care and discharge instructions
• Maintain accurate medical records and support daily hospital workflow

• Ideal candidate qualifications
• Minimum 1 year of veterinary assistant experience preferred
• Comfortable handling and restraining dogs and cats safely
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Dependable, positive attitude, and eager to learn
• Experience with venipuncture and surgical prep is a plus
