Responsibilities
Provide direct, bedside nursing care for adult patients in a medical step-down/PCU setting, with a focus on patients with sepsis, heart failure, hypertensive emergencies, respiratory failure, COPD, CKD, and related conditions; participate in ongoing assessment and plan of care.
Maintain a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio, monitor vital signs and telemetry, administer medications and IV therapies, and respond rapidly to clinical changes using evidence-based protocols.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team (physicians, respiratory therapy, case management, and social work) to develop and adjust individualized care plans; perform timely handoffs at shift change.
Demonstrate proficiency in recognizing and managing acute events (e.g., status epilepticus, encephalopathy) and adhering to ACLS/BLS protocols when indicated.
Document care accurately in the medical record, ensure patient safety measures, infection control practices, and patient/family education as part of discharge planning.
