Position Summary

The Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) provides counseling services within a licensed withdrawal management program, ensuring compliance with Minnesota Statutes Chapter 245F and all applicable regulations. This position delivers person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive care to individuals experiencing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the LADC supports client stabilization, fosters engagement in treatment, and facilitates successful transitions to ongoing care and recovery services.

Essential responsibilities

• Assessment & Clinical Services
• Complete comprehensive assessments and assessment summaries in accordance with Minnesota 245F requirements
• Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Treatment Plans (ITPs)
• Provide individual and group counseling using evidence-based practices, including motivational interviewing and trauma-informed approaches

• Documentation & 245F Compliance
• Complete accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including:
• Assessments and assessment summaries
• Progress notes
• Releases of Information (ROI)
• Ensure all documentation meets 245F standards and supports the client’s treatment and stabilization plan

• Care Coordination & Discharge Planning
• Collaborate with the care coordinator, nursing staff, and external providers to support continuity of care
• Assist clients in transitioning to appropriate levels of care, including referrals to treatment, mental health, and community services
• Engage clients in planning for ongoing recovery supports

• Collaboration & Team Participation
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including medical, nursing, and clinical staff
• Communicate effectively with internal staff and external partners
• Participating in team meetings and case consultations

• Client-Centered Care
• Provide services that are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and person-centered
• Maintain professional and ethical relationships with clients and community partners
• Support client rights, dignity, and self-determination

• Regulatory & Ethical Compliance
• Adhere to all applicable regulations, including:
• Minnesota Statutes Chapter 245F
• 245A licensing requirements
• CFR 42 Part 2 (confidentiality)
• Follow all agency policies, procedures, and ethical standards

• General Duties
• Perform other duties as assigned to support program operations and client care

Position requirements

Physical Requirements • Physical Agility

• Ability to participate in trained physical interventions, including client restraint, in accordance with agency policy
• Lifting/Carrying: Ability to assist in lifting and moving clients (up to 100+ lbs. with assistance)
• Mobility
• Stamina: Ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods
• Emergency
• Response: Ability to perform CPR and first aid as required
• Climbing: Ability to navigate stairs in emergencies

• Required Qualifications
• Current Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) or ADC-T in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy
• Must meet DHS background study requirements
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Experience providing individual and group counseling
• Ability to work effectively with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions
• Ability to provide culturally responsive, person-centered care
• Basic computer skills and ability to complete electronic documentation

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in withdrawal management or substance use disorder treatment settings
• Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals experiencing homelessness and complex health conditions
• Experience facilitating group counseling sessions

• Additional Requirements
• Must comply with organizational policies related to workplace conduct and professional performance
• Must maintain required licensure and continuing education
