The Medical Assistant is responsible for greeting patients, obtaining vital signs, and supporting clinical staff in a behavioral health setting. Key duties include managing medical records, performing lab draws, and coordinating medication refills and prior authorizations.
Candidates must have a high school diploma and completion of a Medical Assistant program, with CPR certification required or obtainable. Experience with EMR and working with patients suffering from addiction and mental health disorders is preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent Completion of MA program or equivalent, one year related experience preferred CPR certified or willing to become certified through an accredited program Possess a basic understanding of clinical pharmacology and medical terminology Previous experience with scheduling patients, answering phones, ordering and managing supplies Experience working with patients who are suffering from anxiety, depression, addiction and other mental disorders Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES Should have a thorough understanding of the cultures and the needs of this population and also the ability to remain professional with both patients and staff Knowledge of alcohol use disorder and drug addiction as a disease that requires medical support Ability to interact with patients, families and others in an empathetic, respectful and friendly manner Ability to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing. Demonstrate the ability to respond to situations, crises and emergencies with good judgment Working knowledge of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and 42 CFR Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple responsibilities and tasks to completion
