As a Behavioral Health Intake Coordinator, you'll provide clinical assessments and coordinate admissions while ensuring every patient receives compassionate, timely, and appropriate behavioral healthcare.
🧠 Responding to referrals from hospitals, providers, community agencies, emergency departments, and individuals seeking behavioral health services
🩺 Conducting comprehensive behavioral health assessments, including medical, psychosocial, psychiatric, and risk evaluations
📋 Determining appropriate levels of care in collaboration with psychiatrists, physicians, and the interdisciplinary treatment team
🤝 Coordinating voluntary and involuntary psychiatric admissions while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
📞 Communicating with referral sources, families, providers, and community partners throughout the admission process
💳 Obtaining insurance authorizations and verifying benefits when appropriate
🚗 Providing assessment services at Gateway Regional Medical Center and contracted community facilities as assigned
🖥️ Maintaining accurate, timely documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR)

✔ Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, or a related behavioral health field OR current Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license with previous behavioral health experience
✔ Current Illinois professional licensure, when applicable
✔ Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) required
✔ CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) certification required within one month of hire
✔ Previous experience in acute inpatient behavioral health or psychiatric crisis assessment preferred
✔ Knowledge of community behavioral health resources and referral processes
✔ Strong understanding of the emotional, psychological, and developmental needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations
✔ Excellent communication, crisis intervention, and clinical decision-making skills
✔ Ability to remain calm, compassionate, and professional in high-pressure situations
