Summary: The Critical Care Technician functions dually as a critical care technician and a nursing assistant. The Critical Care Technician supports highly intensive and invasive procedures within the critical care units. This position monitors and stocks the bed side cart when needed and performs testing procedures with the Physician and Nurses direction.

Functions: Obtains pertinent information from Patient Care Coordinator, charge nurse, or staff nurse throughout the shift. Completes all required documentation. Stocks and monitors bedside cart, unit supply inventory, orders and restocks. Participates in measuring and monitoring Quality Indicators and outcome, as directed. Performs testing procedures according to Physician and nursing direction, in compliance with validations, i.e., ECG, bedside glucose testing, collection of non-blood specimens, etc. Demonstrates ability to set up sterile table for invasive line insertion and properly care for and assemble necessary instruments and supplies, and assists physician using sterile technique. Primes hemodynamic tubings for insertion and scheduled changes. Demonstrates knowledge of the location and use of basic and special equipment and returns equipment to appropriate area following patient use. Performs equipment and supply monitoring and set-up and cleans designated equipment. Transports/transfers patients within the unit, hospital or outside of the hospital, and coordinates this with appropriate personnel according to standard operating procedures. Assists with patient admit and prepares patient room. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
