Summary: The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for the treatment of patients under the supervision of the Physical Therapist in compliance with licensure standards. The Physical Therapist Assistant works with an interdisciplinary team contributing to patient goal development and identifying barriers to discharge. The assistant provides patient centered care and assists the Physical Therapist in planning and organizing the plan of care for the patient.

Functions: Orients patients, family and/or other appropriate parties to the purpose and procedures of the physical therapy evaluation and treatment. Provides appropriate patient/family education and teaching, under the supervision of a Therapist. Obtains and documents appropriately all required and pertinent patient information, including precautions, orders, and initial plan of care. Identifies significant changes in patient's condition and takes appropriate actions, as evidenced in reporting, staffing consultations and documentation. Provides intervention, evaluation and documentation of goal progress, modifies intervention methods as need, and works with therapy team members to achieve patients’ goal. Meets requirements of third party payers by including appropriate documentation following window periods and other insurance guidelines. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
