Job Description

"1.Performs and assumes responsibility for the safety of the patient during their radiographic and fluoroscopic examination.

2.Review patient medical history and supporting clinical information.

3.Ensure that the radiographic and fluoroscopic examination order is complete, contains relevant information, and meets the standard of “medical necessity.” 4.Evaluate any contraindications, insufficient patient preparation, and the patient’s inability or unwillingness to tolerate the examination and associated procedures.

5.Communicate with the patient in a manner appropriate to the patient’s ability to understand.

6.Use proper patient positioning tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and safety, and to prevent compromised data acquisition and musculoskeletal injury to the technologist or patient.

7.Conduct patient clinical assessment and perform the diagnostic medical radiographic and fluoroscopic examination ordered by the supervising physician in accordance with professional and facility protocols.

8.Apply independent judgment during the radiographic and fluoroscopic examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images.

9.Except as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional.

10.As necessary, acquire additional imaging to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician.

11.Identify and document any limitations to the radiographic and fluoroscopic 12.Review examination images, synthesize examination information.

13.Except as authorized by written facility policies and procedures, refer specific diagnostic, treatment or prognosis questions to the appropriate physician or healthcare professional.

14.Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with privacy laws (e.g., HIPAA) and facility policies, and procedures.

15.Adhere to accepted professional and ethical standards.

16.Provide patient services consistent with the Scope of Practice and Clinical Standards for radiology 17.Provide preliminary report of sonography examinations for use by the interpreting physician.

18.Assist with the daily operation of the imaging department.

19.Assist with the education and training of radiology students and physician residents.

20.Transport patients as needed.

21.Age Specific Competency: Staff members will have knowledge of human growth and development through the life span of the patient and can meet the needs of and provide care of these patients.

The age categories to be included are: Neonatal/Infant: 0 - 11 months; Pediatrics: 1 - 12 years; Adolescence: 13 - 17 years; Young Adult/Adult: 18 - 64 years; Adult/Middle-Aged: 65 - 79 years; Geriatric: 80+ years. "

Requirements

Requires ARRT certification, BLS certification, and graduation from an AMA accredited radiology program. Preferred candidates have 1-3 years of experience and proficiency with PACS.
