Candidates must be a licensed APRN or Physician Assistant in Florida with Acute Care or Gerontology certification. Experience in Thoracic Surgery or Oncology is preferred.
JOB SUMMARY—CT Surgery Outpatient Clinic APP Tampa General Hospital, in partnership with the University of South Florida (USF), is seeking an experienced and dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our outpatient Cardiothoracic Surgery team. This position is ideal for motivated individuals committed to delivering excellent patient care in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. This is a fast-paced clinic environment where the APP will play a critical role in delivering comprehensive care to patients before and after surgical interventions, ensuring smooth transitions of care, and supporting specialized programs such as the Valve Clinic. Tampa General Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and a leader in advanced cardiothoracic and transplant care, with ICU teams that are intensivist led to ensure comprehensive and high-quality care for critically ill patients.
Conduct outpatient evaluations of patients pre- and post-cardiothoracic surgical procedures Manage follow-up visits including wound checks, medication adjustments, and recovery assessments Provide care coordination and transition of care planning between inpatient and outpatient settings Participate in the Aortic Clinic and Valve Clinic, including patient assessments, diagnostic review, and multidisciplinary care planning Collaborate closely with cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, recovery expectations, and long-term care management Document patient encounters and maintain accurate medical records in compliance with hospital standards Requests, interprets and evaluates diagnostic and laboratory tests and takes appropriate actions as medically indicated in accordance with departmental protocols. Identifies and reports any specific signs and symptoms, problems or potential problems requiring further assessment, communication and/or intervention to promote positive outcomes. Works autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage clients' health care problems. TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Collaboration with cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and transplant teams Academic Medical Center: mentor new APPs, residents, fellows and students on service Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise utilizing evidence and theory-based practice, infection control standards and clinical evaluations in providing care to clients in clinic or hospital-based settings, as evidenced by following established protocols. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and electronic medical records (EMR) systems, preferably Epic Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment. Strong written and oral communication skills. Outstanding customer service and conflict resolution abilities.
Current licensure as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in the State of Florida. Acute Care or Adult Gerontology Acute Care board certification required for APRNs. National certification is required for PAs. Minimum of 1–2 years of experience as an APP in acute care, cardiology, or cardiothoracic surgery preferred Extremely motivated new graduates may be considered for a position in our APP fellowship program to support their transition to practice.
