Perform and report high-complexity clinical diagnostics and translational research testing under CAP and CLIA requirements. Responsibilities include assay validation, instrument maintenance, and collaboration with senior scientists and principal investigators.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in a science field and MB(ASCP) certification. A Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license is required at the time of hire or must be obtained per state requirements.
The Medical Lab Scientist II supports both the clinical diagnostic and research needs of the laboratory, performing and reporting high-complexity testing under CAP and CLIA requirements while contributing to the translational research program. Work spans all areas of the laboratory, including molecular biology, molecular genetics, microbiology, and molecular microbiology. Routine techniques include DNA, RNA, and protein extraction and purification; quantitative PCR; Sanger and next-generation sequencing; genomic and transcriptomic analysis; and biochemical assays such as ELISA and other immunoassays. Responsibilities include assay performance and validation, quality control, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting, data analysis and documentation, and inventory management. The Medical Lab Scientist II collaborates with research team leaders, senior scientists, and principal investigators across both diagnostic operations and research. What We Are Looking For A motivated team member who is flexible and eager to learn new topics and technologies in molecular biology and genetics, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, effective time management, and clear written and verbal communication. Education Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science, Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related field of science is required. Licensure / Certification Technologist in Molecular Biology certification, MB(ASCP), from the ASCP Board of Certification is required. Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in the applicable specialties is required at the time of hire or must be obtained per state requirements. Experience Experience performing high-complexity molecular or clinical laboratory testing is preferred, including hands-on work with molecular biology, microbiology, cellular biology, and immunology techniques such as nucleic acid extraction, PCR, and DNA sequencing. Prior experience in a research laboratory is not required but will be an advantage, as this role supports both clinical and research work. Experience with CAP/CLIA quality standards and laboratory information systems is not mandatory but will be an added advantage.
