About the role

The nurse coordinates and oversees patient care during the intraoperative phase of surgery, serving as the patient's advocate. Responsibilities include maintaining sterile techniques, completing preoperative assessments, and collaborating with the surgical team.

Position Summary

The Per Diem Circulating OR Nurse is responsible for coordinating and overseeing patient care throughout the intraoperative phase of surgery. The RN will serve as the patient's advocate in the operating room, ensure compliance with sterile technique and safety standards, and work closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and surgical staff to provide exceptional patient care.

  • Current need for Tuesday and Wednesday availability
  • Procedure days are scheduled in advance and communicated by the Director of Nursing with ample notice
  • Additional opportunities may become available based on surgical volume
  • Essential responsibilities
  • Function as the circulating nurse during surgical procedures
  • Complete preoperative patient assessments and documentation
  • Verify patient identity, procedure, consent, and surgical site according to established protocols
  • Coordinate operating room activities to ensure efficient and safe patient care
  • Maintain accurate intraoperative documentation
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, scrub personnel, and recovery staff
  • Assist with patient flow and turnover between cases

Qualifications

  • Active Pennsylvania Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
  • Minimum of one year of Operating Room circulating experience required
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center experience preferred
  • Current BLS certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently in a team-oriented surgical environment

Requirements
