Performs technical ophthalmic procedures, advanced patient work-ups, and assists ophthalmologists with minor surgical procedures. Responsible for greeting patients, taking preliminary histories, and managing departmental flow to improve efficiency.
Requires a High School Diploma or GED along with COA and BLS certifications. Candidates must have at least one year of recent relevant experience and knowledge of eye anatomy and physiology.

EDUCATION: HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE: COA-Certified Ophthalmic Assistant BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider TYPICAL EXPERIENCE: 1 year recent relevant experience SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology, especially relating to the eye. Knowledge of scope of practice of a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. Competency in basic Ophthalmic Assisting skills such as chart documentation, taking vital signs, preparing patients for exam, performing ophthalmology testing. Ability to efficiently operate Ophthalmology equipment. Ability to establish priorities and coordinate work activities paying particular attention to detail.
