  • SUMMARY: SAILS Washington employs appropriate individuals who ensure a high standard of quality and safety in the delivery of Residential Services and who coordinate the provision of services consistent with SAILS Washington philosophy of care.
  • PER DIEM: Per Diem roles are “on-call” or “as needed” with the ability to pick up OPEN shifts or COVER as needed.
  • Per Diem employees are required to pick up a minimum of (1) shift per week or (2) shifts per pay period to be considered an employee of SAILS Washington per our policy.
  • Per Diem employees can work up to (31) hours a week, but cannot work more or will be considered a Full-Time employee and will have to move into Full-time status working a block schedule.
  • PTO hours will not be accrued with this position.
  • Previously accrued PTO hours cannot be used while in this role as your shifts will not be scheduled.
  • In order to use PTO hours, you have to request PTO 2 weeks in advance for scheduled shifts.
  • Per Diem employees will continue to accrue Sick time at 1 hour for every 40 hours worked.
  • Reports to Staffing & Development Program Manager

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Area Director, Management team, and Scheduling Program Manager; the Per-Diem Direct Support Professional: Provides support to program participants that meets their needs, provides opportunities for community integration, including swimming, and creates a nurturing, safe, and healthful living environment. Must check in weekly with the Scheduling Program Manager in regards to open shifts for the week. Can pick up shifts at multiple programs but needs to orient themselves to plans in the program before working with clients. Must have all training before becoming a Per Diem employee. Must keep up to date with all training with our Training Manager. Must complete Per Diem checklist and training on a monthly basis. Must be familiar with the Residential Service Guidelines issued by the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Treat clients with dignity and respect. Provides each participant with an array of instruction and support services, as described in the participants’ Individual Instruction and Support Plan (IISP). Ensures that the daily needs of the participants are met, including personal hygiene, food preparation, house cleaning, shopping, and monitoring of health needs, including supervision of medication. Assists participants with regularly accessing the community to take part in a variety of outings of the participants’ choosing. This may require transporting participants or arranging for transportation. Ensures that participants are treated with dignity and consideration at all times. Promotes and safeguards each participant’s ability to make decisions and to freely exercise his or her rights. Interacts with participants, provides informal counseling and problem-solving with participants. Attends staff meetings as required by the Program Supervisor or the Site Supervisor and/or Administrator. Attends training offered/required by the agency, DDD, and other parties. Takes part in the development and implementation of the IISP for each participant with whom they work. Will become Nurse Assistant Registered (NAR) at employee’s own expense initially and annually. Must enroll and complete the Nurse Delegation study course and take tests within 30 days of employment. Provides necessary support and supervision of participants. Maintains professional working relationships with other services providers, the participants’ parents/relatives/guardians and other agency staff. Responsible for timely completion of all documentation, including, but not limited to, the medication log, shift notes, progress notes, data sheets, incident reports, and client financial records. Follow the agency's policies and procedures, general personnel policies, and general roles and responsibilities of a community protection staff. Must have a valid driver’s license and car and must be willing to transport clients in their own vehicle. Performs other duties as assigned by the Area Director or the House Manager and/or the Program Manager. LICENSING REQUIREMENTS: Must pass a Washington State background check First Aid/CPR Certified (within 120 days of employment, training can be provided) Blood Borne Pathogen (within 120 days of employment, training can be provided) Need to obtain CPI Blue Card ONGOING ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS: Complete and pass the background check screening upon hire and every two years thereafter, or as requested. Maintain active NAR, CPR/First Aid, Nurse Delegation and other required certifications. Complete a minimum of 12 hours of continuing education annually. EXPERIENCE: Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Minimum Experience: Personal experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities with challenging behaviors strongly preferred. Minimum Driving Experience: Must have a valid in-state driver’s license and be able to provide current car insurance.
