Newport News, Virginia Overview The RHS OR Tech works under the supervision of the Circulating Registered Nurse in the Operating Room and the Nurse Manager.
The OR Tech assists with the coordination of patient care while in the Operating room or procedural area and functions as a team member of the surgical team.
Performs job functions based on education, experience, and competency level under the direction of the Surgeon in accordance with all policies, procedures and regulations.
May assist in the preparation and maintenance of equipment, instrumentation, and supplies under the direction of an RN, Surgeon, First Assistant or Surgical Technologist.
Surgical privileges are established by the surgery department and medical staff and approved by the governing body.
What you will do Provides a high level of service excellence and administrative support to all internal and external customers and utilizes the Riverside Care Difference in all interactions.
Performs job functions based on education, experience and competency level under the direction of the Surgeon in accordance with all policies, procedures and regulations.
Demonstrates a surgical conscience by maintaining an aseptic environment during the surgical procedure and by recording breaks in technique per AORN and AST standards.
Demonstrates consistent proficient knowledge of procedure specific utilization of instruments, equipment and supplies.
Demonstrates the ability to build collaborative professional relationship with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs.
Actively supports and assists the perioperative RN and team in the care of patients.
Demonstrates responsibility for accurate handling and management of specimens and surgical count.
Demonstrates a sense of urgency to facility positive customer interactions.
Qualifications Education Program Graduate, Accredited surgical technician training program (Preferred) or , Completion of training program for surgical technology as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States (Preferred) Experience Less than 1 year Related Operating Room work experience OR evidence of related on-the-job training required (Required) Licenses and Certifications CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 90 Days(Required) Surgical Technologist certification through the Virginia Department of Health Professions Board of Medicine (evidence of submitted application required upon hire) within 180 Days (Preferred) To learn more about being a team member with Riverside Health System visit us at https://www.riversideonline.com/careers.
