Job description

Under general supervision, guided by the policies and procedures of the Medical Center and Ambulatory Services, and in collaboration with providers and administrative management, the Nurse Care Coordinator for Pediatric Electrophysiology works autonomously, utilizing the nursing process, to assess, plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate patient care within the ambulatory, procedural, and inpatient settings. This clinician is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and expertise in electrophysiology studies, CIED implantation, CIED interrogation, CIED remote monitoring, and inpatient bedside EP procedures.

  • In the ambulatory setting, the Nurse Care Coordinator for Pediatric Electrophysiology is responsible for coordinating outpatient services and needs for a panel of pediatric, adolescent, and young adult patients and providers.
  • His/her responsibilities include independent CIED (cardiac implantable electronic device) interrogation in clinic.
  • Reviewing, interpreting and triaging CIED remote monitoring.
  • Educating patients and families on CIED care and remote monitoring results.
  • Supports cardiology fellows and nursing colleagues with CIED education and lectures on interpretation of CIED interrogation results.
  • Provides rhythm teaching to patients and families.
  • Participates in QI projects to improve safety and quality of patient outcomes.

In the inpatient setting, the Nurse Care Coordinator for Pediatric Electrophysiology will act as a liaison to ensure continuity of care for patients and their families who have undergone EP procedures including EP studies and CIED implants. Responsibilities include running the GE systems during EP procedures, including supporting physicians with pacing and waveform interpretation. Assisting physicians for CIED implantation, and inpatient EP bedside procedures. The Nurse Care Coordinator will collaborate with the inpatient nursing and provider teams to assist with patient and family education as well as complex care coordination and management, including comprehensive CIED care and management.

The Nurse Care Coordinator for Pediatric Electrophysiology must have the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks and work well with staff, patients, families, and providers. A high degree of independence, initiative, assertiveness, and diplomacy are necessary in dealing with faculty, staff, and patients in a complex environment.
