Job Summary

The practice of physician assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician.

Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; assisting at surgery; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available.

The activities listed below may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other institution settings.

Responsibilities

include:

  • Evaluate, diagnose and manage patients under supervising /collaborating physicians/attending.
  • Perform history taking, physical exams, and medical decision-making
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests
  • Prescribe medications and develop treatment plans
  • Document encounters in an accurate and timely manner
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses and ancillary staff
  • Provide patient education and follow-up care
  • Qualifications
  • BS Required
  • MS Preferred
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • NYS PA Licensure
  • NCCPA Certification
  • ACLS, BLS, PALS and Infection Control Certification
  • Minimum of one year of experience in a similar role preferred.

Requirements

Requires a degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program, NYS PA Licensure, and NCCPA Certification. Candidates must hold ACLS, BLS, PALS, and Infection Control certifications, with one year of experience preferred but new graduates welcome.
