Riverside Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery is currently seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Provider for Riverside Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery located in Newport News, Virginia.
This will be for the nightshift position, 4/10 hour shifts/week with potential for 3/12 hour shifts/week at Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia
You will work under the direction of a Cardiothoracic Surgeon and within established departmental practice guidelines, this Advanced Practitioner is responsibly for performing a variety of duties.
will include but are not limited to pre-op evaluation of patients and preparation for surgery, first and second assisting in cardiac and thoracic surgery, endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting for bypass, as well as bedside assisting for robotically assisted cases. Additionally, the candidate must be able to make rounds in the SICU and telemetry floor, efficiently progressing the patient toward discharge. The candidate must be proficient at removing chest tubes, pacing wires, providing wound care, general procedures utilizing local anesthesia, new consults and discharging patients as well as discharge summaries. Experience with managing mechanical assist devices including durable LVAD, Impella and ECMO is desirable but not required. Willingness to learn central line and arterial line placement, chest tube placement and point of care ultrasound is also required.
Our office is located on the campus of Riverside Regional Medical Center, where the Peninsula's only heart surgery program is located.

Experience with Intensive Care Management of the postoperative Cardiothoracic Surgery patient including familiarity with ventilators, inotropes and vasoactive medications, and circulatory support devices and point of care ultrasound/echocardiogram. This candidate must also be willing to learn new skills such as management of circulatory support devices (i.e. ECMO, Impella) in response to the needs of the program.
Nurse Practitioner License: Nurse Practitioner certification
Required: Meet comprehensive and professional standards
Have a current, valid state of Virginia medical license or be eligible for one
Have a valid DEA controlled substance registration
Current BCLS and ACLS certification
Ability to work collaboratively in a high acuity environment
Ability to make independent decisions regarding patient care.
Ability to document appropriately and communicate with appropriate parties in a timely manner.
Ability to complete charts in a timely manner.
Experienced in diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions Basic working knowledge of managed care and Medicare population Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor Excellent communication skills Professional appearance.
