General Purpose of Job: Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position. Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique. Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures. Prepares sterile field for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and supplies are available for use. During the surgical procedure: Anticipation of needs for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies; Functions as assistant, when needed; Obtains counts with circulating nurse; Cares for specimens according to procedure; Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished. Maintains equipment, supplies and environmental safety. Maintains knowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation. Maintains standards by participating in in-services, committees, etc. Decontaminating and preparation for sterilization of instruments utilized during surgical cases Maintains a clean and safe work environment. Completion of an accredited Surgical Scrub tech program or
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a scrub tech. Education High School Diploma or GED Formal Aseptic Technique Training Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail.
