Veterinary technician – critical care

Up to $40.00/hour (based on experience) + $5.50/hour shift differential for hours worked between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM Full-Time | Friday–Sunday | 3:00 PM–4:00 AM (Three 12-hour Overnight Shifts)

SAGE Veterinary Centers – Concord is seeking a Veterinary Technician to join our Critical Care Unit (CCU). As one of Northern California's premier specialty and emergency hospitals, SAGE Concord provides advanced emergency and critical care supported by board-certified specialists and a highly collaborative medical team.

This role is ideal for an experienced veterinary technician who thrives in a fast-paced specialty environment and is passionate about caring for critically ill and hospitalized patients. You'll work alongside Emergency veterinarians, board-certified specialists, and skilled technicians to provide life-saving care for some of the region's most complex cases.

In Your Day-to-Day, You Will

Deliver advanced nursing care to critically ill and hospitalized patients in the Critical Care Unit.

Monitor patient vital signs, oxygen therapy, pain management, and recovery.

Place and maintain IV catheters, central venous catheters, and urinary catheters.

Administer IV fluids, medications, continuous rate infusions (CRIs), and other prescribed treatments.

Perform venipuncture, laboratory testing, and point-of-care diagnostics.

Assist with emergency procedures, CPR, anesthesia monitoring, and post-operative recovery.

Triage emergency patients and collaborate with Emergency veterinarians and specialty clinicians.

Maintain accurate medical records and communicate patient updates with the medical team.

Promote patient comfort while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe treatment environment.

Maintain Critical Care equipment, crash carts, and treatment areas to ensure emergency readiness.

Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to deliver exceptional patient care.

Contribute to a positive, collaborative hospital culture.

What You Bring

Current California Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) license; experienced unlicensed applicants will also be considered.

Minimum of two years of veterinary technician experience; Emergency or Critical Care experience strongly preferred.

Strong technical skills including venipuncture, IV catheter placement, critical patient nursing, anesthesia monitoring, and patient handling.

Ability to accurately calculate medication dosages, CRIs, treatment estimates, and invoices.

Excellent communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced specialty and emergency environment.
