About the role

GiaCare Inc. is currently accepting applications from experienced civilian Cardiac Monitor Technicians (CMTs) to work alongside the federal government in support of Fort Sam Houston Army Base in San Antonio, Texas.

As a Cardiac Monitor Technician, you will play an important role in patient safety by continuously monitoring cardiac rhythms, recognizing and documenting changes, and promptly communicating significant findings to nursing personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor electrocardiograph (EKG) recordings for up to 32 patients utilizing a central station monitoring system.
  • Admit and discharge patients from cardiac monitoring equipment.
  • Collect, evaluate, and document each patient's cardiac rhythm status at least once per shift and whenever changes in cardiac rhythm occur.
  • Analyze cardiac rhythm strips for PR interval, QRS interval, atrial and ventricular rates, ectopic beats, ST segment changes, and other relevant findings.
  • Recognize and document changes from a patient's baseline cardiac rhythm and immediately notify appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Record cardiac rhythms during cardiac arrests and resuscitation, cardioversion, and administration of applicable intravenous push medications.
  • Maintain patient rhythm strips and ensure required documentation is placed in the patient's medical record prior to the end of the shift when a patient is discharged or transferred.
  • Operate complex cardiac monitoring equipment and troubleshoot computer or monitoring system malfunctions.
  • Communicate equipment and monitoring system problems to appropriate personnel and document identified problems in the designated logbook or notification system.
  • Communicate with nursing personnel when changes in monitoring parameters or electrode placement are required.
  • Discuss monitoring parameter changes with the nurse responsible for the patient's care and clarify any questions regarding arrhythmias or monitor settings.
  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Cardiac Monitor Technicians and cardiac monitoring systems.
  • Perform clerical duties as directed by the head nurse or charge nurse, including answering telephones, recording messages, and organizing patient files.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an EKG Technician or Cardiac Monitor Technician.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through an American Heart Association and/or American Red Cross-approved training program.
  • Formal training in dysrhythmia recognition with certification of education or proof of successful completion.
  • Ability to successfully complete the Government-administered dysrhythmia recognition examination.
  • Ability to successfully complete annual recertification, including a dysrhythmia examination with a minimum passing score of 85%.
  • Must maintain all required certifications and applicable continuing education requirements.
