GiaCare is now accepting applications for a full-time Medical Laboratory Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist to support the 96th Medical Group at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
The selected candidate will perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing across multiple sections of the clinical laboratory while supporting accurate, timely, and reliable diagnostic services for military patients and beneficiaries.
About This Opportunity
The Medical Laboratory Technologist will perform moderate- and high-complexity testing in multiple areas of the clinical laboratory, including hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology, blood bank, serology, and specimen processing. The technologist will prepare and evaluate specimens, operate and maintain laboratory equipment, review results for accuracy, communicate critical values, troubleshoot testing issues, and complete required quality-control documentation. This position supports inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and preoperative testing and requires the ability to work independently while maintaining accurate, timely results in a 24-hour military medical facility.
Compensation and Benefits • Pay
- $52.84 per hour
- Health and welfare benefit: $4.57 per hour
- $3.00 per hour night-shift differential
- $2.00 per hour weekend differential
- Up to $5,000 quarterly bonus, totaling up to $20,000 annually, subject to eligibility and option-year funding
- Up to $5,000 relocation bonus for eligible new contractor personnel relocating from outside a 50-mile radius of Eglin AFB

Schedule • Full-time • 12-hour shifts • Day shift
- 6:00 AM–6:00 PM
- Night shift: 6:00 PM–6:00 AM
- Panama-style schedule, generally three shifts one week and four shifts the following week
- Schedule may include weekdays, weekends, and federal holidays
- Rotation between day and night shifts may be required based on department needs
- No on-call requirement
- No overtime
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Current Medical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology or American Medical Technologists
- Current ASCP or AMT certification/registration
- Minimum of 12 months of clinical laboratory experience within the previous 24 months
- Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross (Or willing to obtain)
- Ability to perform moderate- and high-complexity testing independently
- Ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and federal holidays
Candidates must also meet one of the following education and experience pathways
- Pathway One
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related laboratory science
- Completion of a qualifying medical technology clinical-practice program
- Clinical-practice programs completed after 1974 must be accredited by NAACLS, CAAHEP, or ABHES
- Pathway Two
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- At least 16 semester hours of biological science, including microbiology
- At least 16 semester hours of chemistry, including organic chemistry or biochemistry
- At least one college-level mathematics course
- At least two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience within the previous 10 years as an ASCP- or AMT-certified Medical Laboratory Technician
- Experience performing moderate- or high-complexity testing in applicable clinical laboratory disciplines
- Pathway Three
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- At least 16 semester hours of biological science, including microbiology
- At least 16 semester hours of chemistry, including organic chemistry or biochemistry
- At least one college-level mathematics course
- At least five years of clinical laboratory experience within the previous 10 years performing moderate- or high-complexity testing in applicable clinical laboratory disciplines
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory testing in hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, blood transfusion services, microbiology, serology, clinical microscopy, point-of-care testing, phlebotomy, specimen processing, and shipping
- Perform moderate- and high-complexity analytical testing using independent judgment
- Determine specimen suitability and prepare specimens for analysis
- Prioritize STAT, urgent, inpatient, preoperative, and outpatient testing requests
- Analyze test results and communicate critical values according to departmental policy
- Recognize abnormal results, instrument problems, and testing discrepancies and take appropriate corrective action
- Prepare reagents and reference materials
- Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain laboratory instruments
- Perform established quality-control and quality-assurance procedures
- Troubleshoot common equipment and testing problems
- Maintain accurate patient-testing, quality-control, and laboratory records
- Support regulatory inspection preparation and assist with corrective-action plans
- Assist technical supervisors with section oversight and workflow continuity
- Provide technical guidance and training to laboratory personnel
- Assist with reference laboratory and send-out processes
- Follow infection-control, biological, chemical, radiation, and waste-management requirements
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable military, laboratory, and regulatory standards
- Complete required competency assessments, annual training, and MHS GENESIS training
