About the role

Provide direct patient care and monitoring for post-anesthesia recovery and pre-operative assessments in a Level II Trauma center. Collaborate with surgical and anesthesia teams to coordinate patient handoffs and document care within the EPIC EMR system.

Overview Registered Nurse – PACU, Chico, CA.

This travel assignment starts 08/03/2026 for an estimated 13 weeks with guaranteed 40 hours per week.

Shifts are 4x10-hour rotating, and the role includes weekend coverage.

The position covers Pre-Op and Post-Op care for surgery patients and occasional Pre-Op care for GI patients in a Level II Trauma center setting.

EPIC EMR experience and BLS certification are required.

Current California RN licensure is required.

Scrubs are provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in the PACU for post-anesthesia recovery, including continuous monitoring of vital signs, airway management, pain control, and hemodynamic stability; respond promptly to changes in patient status and implement appropriate interventions.
  • Perform pre-operative assessments for surgical patients and occasional pre-op assessment for GI procedures; coordinate with anesthesia and surgical teams to optimize patient readiness.
  • Document patient care in EPIC EMR, including assessments, medications, analgesia orders, and postoperative progress; ensure accurate, timely charting and compliance with policies.
  • Collaborate with anesthesia providers, surgeons, nurses, and ancillary staff to coordinate patient handoffs and transitions to appropriate units; support a smooth perioperative workflow.
  • Float to Med/Surg and Critical Care as needed; complete assignments safely and maintain high standards of patient care during staffing fluctuations.
  • Adhere to BLS guidelines and trauma center protocols; monitor for potential complications in the PACU and escalate to the anesthesia team or surgeon as required.

Requirements

  • Current California Board of Registered Nursing license (RN)
  • BLS certification
  • EPIC EMR experience (current CPREPIC EMR experience)
  • Prior travel assignment experience is desired
  • Desirable: Certified Peri-Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) and/or Certified Ambulatory Peri-Anesthesia (CAPA)
  • Ability to float to Med/Surg and Critical Care as needed
  • Ability to work the assigned weekend coverage and the 4x10-hour rotating schedule
