About the role

The provider is responsible for assessing patient needs, performing examinations, and implementing care plans under the direction of medical leadership. They must also participate in multidisciplinary rounds, order diagnostic studies, and maintain accurate documentation in the electronic health record.

Advanced practice provider is responsible for assessing patient needs and assisting in the implementation of patient care under the direction of the department medical director and department nurse director or supervising physician.

Reports to

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and ensures appropriate care for assigned patients.

Works collaboratively with the team to perform patient assessments, provide evaluation and consultation for patients admitted or treated at UMC.

Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies in accordance with patient management plan.

Performs examinations or procedures approved by medical director and documents accordingly in patient’s progress notes

Provide coordination of care and education for patient and family support

Develops treatment goals consistent with patient’s condition and appropriate orders post op/post injury care including but not limited to activities, diet, medications, etc.

Communicate updates to the patient and / or family members regarding care plan, and discharge plan.

Thorough and legible documentation in EHR provides a clear picture of the patient's status and progress.

Maintain compliance related to patient orders, records, treatment plans, etc., according to UMC policies, procedures and standards set by Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

All other assigned duties related to patient care.

  • Education and experience
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Current Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) status in Texas is required through the Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • +1 Year of ER/UC/Family Medicine experience preferred OR
  • Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Current Physician Assistant license through the Texas Physician Assistant Board of the Texas Medical Board
  • + 1 year of ER/UC/Family Medicine experience preferred

Required licensures/Certification/Registrations

Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license from Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners or current license through the Texas Physician Assistant Board of the Texas Medical Board.

For Emergency Center or Urgent Care: ACLS, PALS, and ATLS within 6 months of hire.

For Hospitalist Team or ICU Teams: ACLS required.

Skills and abilities

Basic medical knowledge with clinical skills and judgement

Effective communicator verbally and in writing, bust be able to speak, read and write English.

Possess analytical skills to evaluate care needs, ability to gather relevant clinical data, perform thorough physical examinations, and assist with clinical patient management.

Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in dealing with patients, family members, and health care providers in highly stressful situations.

Able to work long hours, various shifts assigned to meet the department’s business needs

Ability to instill confidence in patients, physicians and personnel

Ability to determine appropriate care for the patient in conjunction with the medical team.

Make decisions independently

Ability to recognize changes in patient’s condition and adapt to emergency conditions.

Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently.

Possess a high degree of accuracy in carrying out prescriptions, receiving and translating information, charting and reporting.

Demonstrates a high level of critical thinking.

Understands departmental and facility policies, procedures, and regulations.

Ability to professionally communicate with all members of the healthcare team.

  • Interaction with other departments and other relationships
  • This position requires close interaction with the medial staff, nursing staff and ancillary areas to maintain a quality multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.

Physical capabilities

Walking, sitting, and standing most of the time while on duty.

Adequate hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills are required.

Visual acuity and writing skills, talking and hearing are essential for this role.

May be required to lift to 50 pounds.

Hours may be long and irregular and may include weekends as well as emergency calls.

Environmental/Working conditions

This position is mostly subject to inside environmental conditions.

Occasionally it may require work with chemical hazards (i.

E., sprays, mists, vapors and fumes).

Requirements

Candidates must hold a current Texas license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. At least one year of experience in ER, Urgent Care, or Family Medicine is preferred, along with relevant certifications like ACLS, PALS, and ATLS.
