The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, including mechanical ventilation and emergency interventions. They are responsible for performing arterial punctures, monitoring patient oxygen needs, and maintaining comprehensive patient reports.

One California Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Respiratory Care Practitioner, you will competently provide essential respiratory care for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.

Your expertise is vital for critical respiratory interventions and patient well-being.Every day you will perform arterial punctures, continuous ventilation, airway maintenance, emergency care, infection control, isolation procedures, mechanical ventilator operation, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and medical gas administration.To be successful in this role, you will possess advanced clinical skills in all aspects of respiratory care across age groups, meticulous attention to detail, a strong commitment to patient safety and infection control, and the ability to perform effectively in emergencies.

Initiates and monitors mechanical ventilation to assure the patient is being ventilated adequately and according to protocol or the physician's written or verbal orders.

Blood gas sampling following appropriate infection control technique.

Extubates patients as per Cardiac and ICU protocol or the physician's written or verbal orders.

Organizes and gives a comprehensive patient report to the incoming shift.

Approaches the physician to clarify prescribed therapy and recommends modification when indicated.

Assesses and monitors the use of oxygen by performing pulse oximetry to verify medical need for oxygen.

Recommends changes in therapy.

Job Requirements Required Completion of an AMA approvedrespiratory therapy program.

Bachelors Other in Respiratory Care, Health Sciences.

Or credentialed in one of thefollowing by the National Board ofRespiratory Care Advanced Critical CareSpecialty, Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist, Certified/Registered Pulmonary FunctionTechnologist.

Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner with the State of California.

Five (5) years minimum acute care experience, with 1 year of critical care experience.

If no qualified candidate, may consider training positions, depending on staffing needs.

Respiratory Care Practitioner: CA.

Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support PALS.

Preferred Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).

Requirements

Candidates must have completed an AMA-approved respiratory therapy program and hold a valid California Respiratory Care Practitioner license. A minimum of five years of acute care experience, including one year of critical care experience, is required along with BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications.
