About the role

The Dental Assistant will provide chairside support to General Dentists during various procedures and maintain clinical equipment according to safety standards. They are also responsible for documenting patient care in electronic health records and ensuring efficient patient flow within the clinic.

Akicita Federal is hiring a Dental Assistant to deliver high-quality oral health care support to Veterans served by the Orlando VA Healthcare System in Orlando, FL. In this role, you will work alongside General Dentists in a clinical environment, helping to ensure Veterans receive timely, professional, and compassionate dental care. This is a meaningful opportunity to contribute directly to the health and well-being of those who have served our country.

Prepare and maintain dental operatories, instruments, and equipment in accordance with infection control and safety standards.

Assist General Dentists chairside during a full range of dental procedures, including examinations, restorations, extractions, and prosthetic work.

Take and process dental radiographs (X-rays) as directed by the treating dentist.

Document patient care activities accurately and promptly in the electronic health record system.

Sterilize and manage dental instruments and supplies, ensuring operatory readiness between patient appointments.

Communicate clearly with Veterans to explain procedures, address concerns, and help create a comfortable clinical experience.

Coordinate with dental and administrative staff to support efficient patient flow and scheduling throughout the clinic day. \n

Current, valid Dental Assistant certification or licensure as required by the State of Florida.

Demonstrated experience performing chairside dental assisting duties in a clinical setting.

Proficiency in taking dental radiographs (X-rays), including applicable state-required radiography certification.

Knowledge of dental instruments, sterilization protocols, and infection control procedures.

Ability to maintain accurate clinical documentation and records.

Must be able to successfully complete VA personnel vetting and credentialing requirements prior to beginning work. \n What sets candidates apart:

Prior experience working in a federal, military, or VA dental clinic environment.

Familiarity with VA or government electronic health record systems (e.g., VistA/CPRS or Dentrix).

Experience serving Veterans, active-duty military personnel, or other federal patient populations.

Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) designation or additional Florida-recognized dental assistant credentials.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-volume clinical setting with diverse patient needs.
