The Mental Health Worker assists licensed nursing staff in providing direct patient care within the emergency department. They are responsible for maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients under the direction of staff nurses.
About This Unit The Emergency Department provides care to all populations, from newborns through geriatrics.
Specialty services include a Level II Trauma Center and Centers of Excellence for Heart & Vascular and Stroke care.
This is a 96-bed Emergency Center averaging approximately 300 patient visits per day.

Scope of Work Under moderate direction, the Mental Health Worker assists licensed nursing staff in providing direct patient care.
This role also helps maintain a safe and therapeutic environment on the unit, working under the direction of the staff nurse and within the scope of defined practice.
Completion of Mental health Certificate program, 2 years college with major in Behavioral Science, or 4 years equivalent work experience in a behavioral health setting. Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral science field preferred. 1 year in behavioral setting preferred. BLS and CPI training required Good communication skills. Work well in an unpredictable environment. Must be able to occasionally handle working in a high paced stressful environment/situation
Candidates must have a Mental Health Certificate, two years of college in Behavioral Science, or four years of equivalent work experience. BLS and CPI certifications are required for this role.
