  • Range: $16.00 - $20.00 HourlyPosition Summary Hours are 2pm-10pm The Medication Technician is responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely administration of resident medications in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, state regulations, and delegated nursing oversight. This role plays a critical part in promoting resident health and well-being through diligent medication management, observation of resident responses, accurate documentation, and prompt communication of medication-related concerns. The Medication Technician helps maintain a safe, supportive, and resident-centered environment while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. Essential

Duties & Responsibilities

Provide assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and mobility. Support residents with meal preparation, dining, and hydration, ensuring nutritional needs are met. Perform light housekeeping duties including laundry, room tidiness, and common area upkeep. Promptly report changes in resident condition or behavior to supervisory staff. Administer prescribed medications and treatments to residents according to physician orders, delegated nursing authority, facility policies, and applicable state regulations. Accurately document all medications administered, refused, held, or discontinued in the Medication Administration Record (MAR) and other required documentation systems. Monitor residents for medication effectiveness, adverse reactions, side effects, or changes in condition and promptly report concerns to the nurse, supervisor, or healthcare provider as appropriate. Maintain accurate medication inventory, including receiving, storing, counting, ordering, and disposing of medications in accordance with regulatory and facility requirements. Ensure all medications are stored, secured, and handled according to manufacturer guidelines and applicable state and federal regulations. Conduct routine medication cart audits, controlled substance counts, and medication record reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance. Communicate effectively with residents, family members, physicians, pharmacies, nurses, and other team members regarding medication-related matters. Assist with scheduling medication refills and coordinating pharmacy services to maintain continuity of resident care. Observe and document resident health status, reporting changes in physical, mental, or emotional condition to appropriate clinical staff. Support resident health and wellness by encouraging medication compliance while respecting resident rights, dignity, and independence. Participate in care planning discussions and provide medication-related observations that contribute to resident service plans. Respond appropriately to medication errors, incidents, or emergencies, following established reporting and corrective action procedures. Complete all required documentation, training, certifications, and continuing education related to medication administration and resident care. Adhere to infection prevention and control practices, resident rights policies, confidentiality requirements, and HIPAA regulations. Ensure compliance with State Regulations, facility policies, and all applicable medication administration regulations. QualificationsBackground High school diploma or equivalent required. Current Medication Aide/Medication Technician certification or successful completion of required state-approved medication administration training. Prior experience in senior living, assisted living, memory care, CBRF, RCAC, or long-term care preferred. Knowledge of medication administration procedures, documentation requirements, and resident rights. Ability to accurately maintain records and follow physician orders and delegated nursing instructions. Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills. Ability to safely assist residents and respond appropriately in emergency situations. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to push medication carts and perform repetitive documentation tasks. Ability to visually verify medications, labels, documentation, and resident identification. Ability to communicate effectively with residents, families, healthcare providers, and team members.

Requirements

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a current Medication Aide or Technician certification. Prior experience in senior living or long-term care settings is preferred, along with strong organizational and communication skills.
