The DXA Technician performs bone densitometry exams by positioning patients, operating imaging equipment, and documenting results in the electronic medical record. They also coordinate patient care and maintain accurate records while ensuring a high standard of customer service across various clinical sites.

Job Summary

The DXA Technician is responsible for completing bone densitometry exams according to prescribed exam protocols and exam duration, processing bone density study measurements using computer generated methods, and proper use of electronic medical record with patient chart documentation.

Positions patient on examining table, sets up and adjusts equipment to view specific body area as requested by physician.

Performs procedures using bone density x-ray equipment and coordinating patient care for bone density services, under supervision of physician.

Work situations are a variety of clinical and clerical functions, which requires knowledge and integration of available standards, resources, and data; discretion; good judgment; diplomacy; decision-making; and a customer service attitude.

Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within an imaging center.

Relies on limited judgment and experience to plan and accomplish goals.

Pay and Benefits

Pay

$22.79 - $36.74 per hour based on relevant experience, skills, and abilities. This role is eligible for a +$2.00 / hour Float shift differential.

    Essential Job Functions

    1. Provides patient care in accordance with the mission statement of TRA Medical Imaging 2.

    Centers

    “Your Community of Excellence”. 3. Prepares the patient for a DXA (Dual X-ray Absorptometry) exam with clear instructions and a thorough explanation of the procedure. 4. Obtains a thorough patient history as it relates to the exam to be completed. 5. The DXA Technician must be able to closely follow provider instructions, prepare the DXA equipment, position patients correctly and accurately capture the diagnostic image. 6. Must have knowledge of Bone Density Analysis. 7. Periodically performs precision testing to monitor ongoing precision of measurements. 8. Able to complete examination in a timely manner. 9. Completes Modality Worksheet with accurate information for the Radiologist. 10. Maintains high standards regarding the accurate recording of patient information. 11. Utilizes accurate written and oral communications with patients, physicians, co-workers and supervisors. 12. Utilizes exemplary customer service skills with patient and family members. 13. Performs necessary computer functions associated with patient exam. Includes the Radiology Information System and PACS. 14. Completes patient chart documentation within patient's electronic medical record, according to Protocols. 15. Keeps work area and patient exam areas neat and stocked with appropriate supplies. 16. Participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel. 17. Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences. 18. Cooperates and maintains good rapport with co-workers to ensure proper patient care and efficient workflow. 19. Able to use good body mechanics to avoid injury to oneself and the patient. 20. Able to travel to other TRA offices as needed.

    Qualifications

    • Education/Work Experience
    • High school diploma or GED required
    • Minimum 1 year of recent, related experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
    • Valid Washington State Technician certification
    • Medical Terminology certification preferred
    • Current BLS certification required
    • Job Knowledge/Skills
    • Have strong knowledge of RIS, Replica, and PACS systems.
    • Have general knowledge of radiology procedures.
    • Maintains high standards regarding the accurate recording of patient information.
    • Is prompt and efficient with minimal absences.
    • Ability to demonstrate effective customer service skills.
    • Requires effective oral and written skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and carry out instructions effectively.
    • Communicate professionally with other medical facilities, patients, and customers.
    • Practices in accordance with ethical, legal and organizational, framework. Maintains patient confidentiality, respects cultural, economic, ethnic and lifestyle differences of patients, visitors and staff
    • Ability to work independently and take initiative
    • Ability to set priorities and use good judgment

    Physical Requirements

    • Work is classified as moderate in physical requirements.
    • Must be able to assist in supporting patients of varying weight.
    • Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time.
    • Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
    • Also requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment as necessary.

    Work requires high attention to detail and the ability to handle mentally stressful situations. The ability to maintain high level of sensitivity towards confidential information is also required.

    Working/Environmental Conditions

    Work environment consists of normal office or administrative working conditions. There may be exposure to communicable diseases. There will be limited exposure to ionizing radiation.
