• GENERAL
• SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Director, Surgical Services and the Supervisor, Sterile Prep, the Certified Sterile Prep Technician processes all materials that can be reprocessed, including instrument sets, trays, equipment, and specialty items to include decontamination, assembly, packaging and terminal sterilization. Assembles surgical case carts and equipment according to departmental policies and procedures. DESCRIPTION:

Duties and Responsibilities

• Decontamination:
• Separates instruments from other articles for purposes of washing and decontamination and notifies supervisor of any missing items and reports any malfunctions.
• Disassembles, cleans, and decontaminates general, specialty and loaner instrumentation.
• Follows manufacturers recommendations when indicated.
• Demo
• Assembles instruments, sets, and peel-pouched items. Prepares special items upon request. Must be able to communicate both inter and intra departmentally.
• Demonstrates knowledge and competency in performing biological testing of steam autoclaves and sterrad units.
• Decontaminates patient care equipment from the nursing units.
• Adheres to universal precautions and uses appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Receives and inspects instruments from the decontamination area and follows established procedures for deletion and repair.
