The phlebotomist is responsible for obtaining blood specimens from patients of all ages in a professional and courteous manner. They must also maintain accurate records and operate laboratory equipment while adhering to safety and confidentiality standards.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent and be registered as a certified laboratory phlebotomist. Proficiency with laboratory information systems and various phlebotomy tools is preferred.
Phlebotomist Clerical Support Obtains blood specimens, in a courteous and professional manner, from patients of all age ranges. SKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrates the ability to use a personal computer and various software programs applicable to the position Demonstrates the ability to operate applicable office equipment Exhibits the ability to deal effectively interdepartmentally & with the public Exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality, think and act independently with minimal supervision in all situations including traumas Must have legible handwriting Maintains regular, consistent and punctual attendance at the assigned job location EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES/DEGREES High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred Registered as a Certified Laboratory Phlebotomist with a national certification agency for medical laboratory personnel or the American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or show proof of pending recertification preferred EXPERIENCE Working knowledge of, but not limited to: HIS and LIS computer Systems and related equipment, 5-line telephone, Vacutainer System-syringes, butterfly needles, safety needles, finger-heelstick devices, autoclave and bar code printers preferred GENERAL INFORMATION Union Affiliation: UFCW The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
