The Pathology Assistant performs gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens while preparing tissue for laboratory testing. They work under the supervision of pathologists to ensure the accurate and timely processing of pathological specimens.
Candidates must be certified allied health professionals with the ability to operate histology instrumentation and manage computer data entry. The role requires strong interpersonal skills, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to lift 20-30 pounds.
Work under the supervision of the Pathologist(s) and Histology Department Lead to perform daily operations, and reports to the Director-Laboratory. A Pathology assistant (PA) is a highly trained, certified allied health professional who is qualified by academic and practical training to provide services in anatomic pathology under the supervision of a licensed, board-certified anatomic pathologist. PAs perform various tasks, including gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens, and preparing tissue for testing. PAs play a crucial role in providing accurate and timely processing of pathological specimens, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the laboratory.
