Responsibilities include explaining procedures to maximize patient comfort, assisting radiologists during exams and biopsies, and ensuring proper equipment maintenance.
Requirements summary
Candidates must be graduates of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and hold active certification with ARDMS (SPI only is ineligible) or ARRT(S), maintaining current CME compliance. Required skills include effective communication, comprehension of medical terminology, and knowledge of database, RIS, and PACS software.
The Breast Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment to create necessary images and obtain measurements. Individual must maintain a high degree of accuracy in positioning and scanning technique. Communicates with the patient and relays any pertinent information to the radiologist and documents on tracking sheet/chart.

Here is what you will need
Education: Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. For exceptions and training outside the US, educational requirements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and require HR approval.
Certificates: Active certification with ARDMS (SPI only is not eligible for hire) or ARRT(S). ARRT-BS is also acceptable if performing breast sonography only. Current compliance with CME requirements. Exceptions require HR approval.
Language
Skills: Ability to effectively communicate to patients the procedures and educate women about the role of regular mammography in preventative breast health. Ability to read and write and comprehend medical terminology. Ability to effectively communicate information on a one-on-one and small group basis to doctors, patients, and other employees.
Reasoning
Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and sometimes involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer
Skills: Knowledge of database software and RIS/PACS software.
Physical demands: Needs to be able to stand for long periods of time.

Maintains the ultrasound equipment for cleanliness and ensures proper equipment maintenance and equipment safety
Maintains a good working relationship with Radiologists and other Center staff members
