About the role

The Outpatient Primary Care Provider will provide direct outpatient medical care to walk-in patients of all ages, including evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for various conditions. The Outpatient Family Practice Provider will deliver comprehensive medical care in a full-time walk-in clinic setting at the IHS facility in Ogema, Minnesota. The provider will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. The clinic operates with two providers seeing an average combined volume of 12 patients per day, ensuring a manageable workload and collaborative clinical environment.

This role supports IHS’s mission to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indian and Alaska Native populations to the highest level.

  • \n $180 - $190 an hour Position Overview The Outpatient Family Practice Provider will deliver comprehensive medical care in a full-time walk-in clinic setting at the IHS facility in Ogema, Minnesota. The provider will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients presenting with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. The clinic operates with two providers seeing an average combined volume of 12 patients per day, ensuring a manageable workload and collaborative clinical environment. This role supports IHS’s mission to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indian and Alaska Native populations to the highest level. Work Schedule & Patient Volume Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 PM – 4:30 PM Clinic Type: Outpatient Walk-In Average Patient Volume: -20–30 patients per day total
  • Shared between two providers Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct outpatient medical care to walk-in patients of all ages
  • Perform medical histories, physical exams, assessments, and diagnoses
  • Treat acute illnesses, manage chronic conditions, and provide follow-up care
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, labs, and imaging
  • Prescribe medications in accordance with federal, state, and IHS guidelines
  • Document all patient encounters accurately in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, behavioral health, pharmacy, and specialty services
  • Provide patient education, preventive care guidance, and referrals as appropriate
  • Comply with all IHS policies, federal regulations, and clinical protocols
  • Maintain professional standards, cultural sensitivity, and patient confidentiality Required Qualifications Education:
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • OR Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Physician Assistant (PA) from an accredited program Licensure:
  • Current, unrestricted license in any U.S. state, territory, or D.C.
  • Must be eligible for licensure in Minnesota Experience:
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical experience in outpatient, primary care, or urgent/walk-in care settings preferred
  • Experience in rural, tribal, or underserved communities strongly preferred Certifications:
  • Current BLS (required)
  • ACLS (preferred)
  • DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain) \n

Requirements

Candidates must have an MD or DO from an accredited medical school or be a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant from an accredited program. A current, unrestricted license and a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in outpatient settings are required.
