  • Smithfield, Virginia Opening in early 2026, Riverside Smithfield Hospital brought high-quality healthcare closer to home for Isle of Wight County residents.
  • Located on a beautifully landscaped 27-acre medical campus at 19339 Benn’s Grant Boulevard in Smithfield, the new hospital provides modern facilities and comprehensive medical services to meet the growing needs of the community.
  • The 200,000-square-foot, three-story facility offers a range of essential healthcare services including an Emergency Department, Diagnostic Imaging Services, 38 Medical/Surgical beds, 12 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds and 4 Operating Rooms.

  • Overview Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting.
  • In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit.
  • The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure.
  • Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.
  • What you will do Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
  • Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN.
  • This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes.
  • Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED, (Preferred) Experience 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred) Licenses and Certifications CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) Upon Hire(Required) and Certified Nurse Aid (CNA) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) In lieu of CNA certification, will accept EMT-B (Basic) from the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, or Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, or Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 clinical hours completed, or completed on-the-job training in phlebotomy and splinting.
