About the role

The nurse is responsible for scheduling, preparing, and administering infusion medications to patients in an outpatient rheumatology setting. This includes monitoring patients during treatment, educating them on medications, and maintaining accurate patient charts.

The Toledo Clinic's Rheumatology Department, Arthritis Associates of NW Ohio, is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse. This position will be scheduled Monday (9-3), Tuesday (8-4), Wednesday (8-4), and Thursdays as needed. No evenings, weekends, or holidays! This position will schedule and prepare patients for infusion treatments and administer medication.

General Summary

Provides patient care in an outpatient infusion setting; including preparing and administering infusion medications following established standards and practices.

Works under the supervision of the attending physician(s) and/or the practice manager

Duties: & Responsibilities:

Example of Essential Duties

  • 1.
  • Schedule patients for infusions per physician orders.
  • 2.
  • Performs nursing duties, history and physical, vital signs to prepare patient for infusion.
  • 3.
  • Prepare and Administer infusion medications as directed; including starting IVs 4.
  • Monitor patients while receiving treatments.
  • Take vitals periodically during infusion.
  • 5.
  • Educate patients on procedures, medications, signs/symptoms of reactions, etc.
  • 6.
  • Works closely with physicians to follow treatment plan for patient.
  • Communicate with physicians regarding patient symptoms, any possible reaction, dosing, etc.
  • 7.
  • Responds to incoming patient treatment-related phone calls.
  • Instructs patient and caregivers regarding medications and treatment.
  • 8.
  • Assists with monitoring supply inventory and drug orders as needed 9.
  • Assures infusion pumps are maintained and in working order 10.
  • Ensures cleanliness of infusion room 11.
  • Complete and ensure accuracy of patient charts.
  • Accurately complete and submit charges in a timely manner 12.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Required

Previous infusion experience preferred. Skills in IV access.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame.

Ability to multi-task and work together in a fast-paced team environment.

Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.

Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.

Adheres to all Toledo Clinic policies and procedures.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current RN license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, a current RN license, and BLS certification. Previous infusion experience and proficiency in IV access are preferred.
