About the role

The Registered Nurse coordinates and provides comprehensive care to patients before and after surgical procedures in an outpatient setting. They assist physicians and anesthesiologists while maintaining accurate documentation of the nursing process.

General Summary

Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating and providing comprehensive care to patients before and after surgical procedures in a fast-paced outpatient setting. Works under the supervision of the Director of Nursing

Principal

Duties: & Responsibilities:

Example of Essential Duties

  • 1.
  • Develops a plan of care based on patient health care data, procedure to be performed, and expected patient outcomes.
  • 2.
  • Assists the physician by preparing, monitoring, educating, or recovering the patient in OPS.
  • 3.
  • Assists anesthesiologist to ensure patient safety and quality of care.
  • 4.
  • Maintains documentation of nursing process for the care of the operative patient.
  • 5.
  • Evaluates changes in procedure and updates physician preference cards.
  • 6.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

Required

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.

Maintains aseptic technique in accordance with AORN/ASPAN standards.

Adheres to Universal Precaution Standards and clinic Policies and Procedures.

Consistently arrives at work, in professional attire, on time and completes all tasks within established time frame.

Seeks appropriate tasks when primary tasks are completed and assists co-workers as needed.

Demonstrates adaptability to expanded roles.

Adheres to clinic’s policies and procedures.

Education

• Associates degree, Bachelors degree, or diploma in Nursing and Current State licensure required.

Preferred

BLS, ACLS, and PALS preferred.

Previous Preop/PACU experience preferred.

Strong proficiency in IV insertion, airway management, and rapid assessment of post-anesthetic patients preffered

Requirements

Candidates must hold an Associate's, Bachelor's, or diploma in Nursing along with a current state licensure. Proficiency in IV insertion, airway management, and post-anesthetic assessment is preferred.
