The laboratory assistant performs specimen collection, storage, and transport while conducting point of care and quality testing. They are also responsible for maintaining accurate records and ensuring compliance with CAP, Joint Commission, and CLIA standards.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and must complete the OSF Phlebotomy class within six months of hire. Previous phlebotomy experience and proficiency in Electronic Medical Records and Microsoft applications are preferred.
The laboratory assistant plays a vital role in the care of our patients. Laboratory testing is an integral part of the delivery of care and the patient experience. The laboratory assistant performs specimen collection, is responsible for proper storage of specimens, prepares specimens for transport and performs all point of care testing and quality testing to meet College of American Pathologists (CAP)/Joint Commission and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) standards. The laboratory assistant must review provider orders and maintain up to date knowledge of new laboratory standards and information. The laboratory assistant is responsible for keeping accurate records, such as quality control and temperature monitoring in laboratory areas, and must be committed to patient identification and excellence in customer service.
High school or GED equivalent. Successful completion of OSF Phlebotomy class within 6 months of hire (if OSF Phlebotomy class has not been previously completed and/or does not have previous phlebotomy experience).
Previous phlebotomy experience or training. Successful completion of OSF Phlebotomy class. Electronic Medical Record Microsoft application basic proficiency. OSF HealthCare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
