The Medical Social Worker identifies socioeconomic and emotional factors that may impede a patient's medical treatment or recovery. They provide support based on the physical, emotional, and psycho-social needs of the patient population.
A Master's Degree in Social Work and a current state license to practice are required. Candidates must have CPR certification, a valid driver's license, and proficiency in electronic documentation.
The Medical Social Worker is responsible for identifying socioeconomic and emotional factors that exist which are, or can be, an impediment to the effective treatment of the patient’s medical condition or rate of recovery. This individual demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served.
