The LPN will assess patients, develop and document nursing care plans, and administer medications and emergency therapies. They are also responsible for operating emergency technical equipment and coordinating patient discharge planning.
Candidates must have at least one year of direct patient care experience in critical care or surgical units and a degree from a professional nursing school. A current Ohio license and certifications in CPR, BLS, and ACLS are required.

What does a typical day look like for the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)? You will: Clinic Hours: 8 am to 4:30 pm. Obtain patient history and pertinent family history. Assess patient and plan appropriate nursing care. Document plan of care and care given in the patient’s medical record. Communicate pertinent patient data to the charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate. Re-assess the patient’s condition and revise plans of care based on the identified nursing problem. Possess knowledge of actions and usual dosages of most commonly used emergency drugs and their location on the crash cart. Assess and document patient response to medication that has been administered. Reorganize and initiate appropriate measures in emergencies/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures that shall be accomplished. Instruct the patient/family regarding prescribed medications/therapies and surgical/diagnostic procedures that shall be accomplished. Assess patient/family knowledge level, implement plan of instructions, and record patient/family demonstrated level of understanding. Operate defibrillator, EKG machines, cardiac monitor, other emergency technical equipment. Participate in discharge planning, as appropriate. Be able to initiate life-saving measures in the absence of physicians. Assure the content and correctness of a prepared report and sign the document to validate its content. Maintain a neat, personal appearance and maintain professional decorum. Consistently, apply VA customer service standards, demonstrating helpful, courteous, and respectful conduct at all times. What qualifications do you look for?
