Provides clinical and administrative support to orthopedic providers, including patient preparation and assistance during examinations and procedures. Responsibilities include applying orthopedic devices, managing EMR documentation, and coordinating patient care workflows.
Requires a high school diploma or GED and completion of a healthcare-related post-secondary program or equivalent experience. Preferred candidates have Medical Assistant or Orthopedic Assistant/Technician training and previous clinical experience in orthopedics.
Support orthopedic providers with examinations, procedures, treatments, and coordination of care Prepare patients by completing chart prep, vital signs, histories, documentation, and ordering imaging per protocol Assist with minor procedures (wound care, suture/staple removal, dressing & VAC changes), serve as first assist in clinic, and support ultrasound-guided procedures Apply, adjust, and remove orthopedic devices (casts, braces, splints, slings, wraps) under supervision Educate patients and families on post-op care, rehab, and safe use of equipment Coordinate workflow including scheduling, diagnostics, surgical prep, and follow-ups Facilitate research study patient care and coordination Manage patient phone calls, messages, and in-basket tasks to support timely communication and care Maintain exam/ rooms, ensuring cleanliness, supplies, and equipment readiness Manage EMR documentation and patient forms with accuracy and compliance Collaborate with radiology, therapy, nursing, and other departments to provide comprehensive care
Minimum Education/ Work Experience: High school diploma or GED (required) Completion of a healthcare related post-secondary education program; including but not limited to RN, LPN, Surgical Technologist, Athletic Trainer, Surgical First Assistant, Orthopedic Assistant, and Orthopedic Technologist OR An equivalent combination of education and experience Knowledge/ Skills/Abilities: Ability to acquire knowledge of orthopedic anatomy, procedures, sterile techniques, and age-related care principles Strong communication, team based and interpersonal skills, leadership, and problem-solving potential Willingness to gain proficiency with EMR systems, clinical documentation, and orthopedic equipment Capacity to respond effectively in emergencies and assist colleagues in high-stress situations Organized, adaptable, detail-oriented, and efficient, with a commitment to continuous learning and skill development Strong attention to detail and patient safety protocols
Completion of Medical Assistant or Orthopedic Assistant or Technician (NBCOT) training program preferred, but not required Previous clinical experience in orthopedics or a related medical field (preferred)
