The Monitor Technician is responsible for the constant observation and interpretation of cardiac rhythms from a centralized monitoring station. They must notify appropriate staff of rhythm changes and perform various clerical and organizational duties for the nursing station.
Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and have completed a Basic Arrhythmia class for cardiac monitor reading skills. Proficiency in medical terminology, computer usage, and strong communication skills are required.
UPMC Jameson is hiring a Monitor Technician to join the Central Monitoring Team! This full-time role will work both 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with no travel required. Weekend and holiday work is required, and holiday work is on a rotating schedule. No on call is required.
The primary functions of the Monitor Technician are constant observation, and interpretation of, cardiac rhythms from the centralized monitoring station located in the Intermediate Care Unit. In response to rhythm changes, the Monitor Technician will notify the appropriate staff member. Additional duties include assisting with clerical duties and in maintaining the organization of the nursing station.
Assist with coordinating transfers. Notify Primary Care Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor or Charge Nurse of changes. General Secretarial Duties. Provide copy of shift summary and send to appropriate unit of remote monitored patients. Utilize monitor pause to ensure right monitor, right patient, and right room. Placement of, or send to appropriate remote unit, daily monitor renewal labels. Daily monitoring charge in Star system. Cardiac monitoring. Interact with families and visitors. Assist with discharges. Interpretation of cardiac rhythms. Answer Telephones and deliver messages. At the end of 3-11 shifts, send the past 24 hour record to the appropriate unit of remote monitored patients. Documentation of rhythms by printing end of shift strips, include shift summary and changes. Assist with tear down of discharge charts. Verbally report to incoming ICT. Assist with transcription of orders if skill level permits. Communication, internal and external.
